Interest Groups

LUNCH GROUP
Every Sunday after church. Different locations each week. Sign up same day. Members and visitors welcome.

CHALICE CIRCLES
These groups of 6-12 are a form of Small Group Ministry. They meet several times a month for conversation led by a facilitator to increase intimacy with others and a deeper exploration of one's own experience of life

SOCIAL ACTION
Meets 2nd Thursday of the month, 7pm, September to June. Active in support for Mid Valley Interfaith Council, West Valley Interfaith Council, Oasis Elementary School (food for families; gift books to students), Well in the Desert (Easter and Thanksgiving programs.) Representatives attend ACLU meetings. Takes up other issues and causes as need or opportunity arises. Members and visitors welcome, one-time, occasional or regular visits.

UU WOMEN TOGETHER
Meets 3rd Wednesday of the month, 12:30pm, September to May. Each get-together includes an activity or program, a brief business meeting, and refreshments. The December get-together is a luncheon and gift exchange arranged by the UUWT Committee. The May meeting is luncheon at a local restaurant. Members and visitors welcome, one-time, occasional or regular visits.

UU MEN
Meets 3rd Wednesday of the month, noon, October to May, for lunch and a discussion topic. May lunch is traditionally at Keedy's. Members and visitors welcome, one-time, occasional or regular visits.

BRIDGE GROUP
Meets Wednesdays 7pm year round at the church. Members, friends and visitors welcome.
Coordinator: Marjorie Bigda.

ROUND ROBIN BRIDGE
All interested participants sign up in September/October for the program which runs through May. Participants agree on how much money to put in the pot and make their own arrangements to get together to play. Culminates in a potluck awards dinner in May. Members and visitors welcome to sign up.

Committees

HOSPITALITY
Plans activities to foster a heightened sense of community among members and to introduce new members into the congregation: coffee hour and a Restaurant Lunch Bunch after the Sunday service, sign-ups to provide flowers in the sanctuary; Circle Suppers in members' homes and a Thanksgiving Potluck. Members and visitors welcome to serve on committee and/or host a potluck.

MEMBERSHIP
Meets once a month, September to May. Oversees visitor reception at Sunday Services and follow-up contact. Provides printed information on UU in general and our congregation for visitors. Plans one or more series of orientation classes during the year for those considering membership. Arranges for new member welcoming ceremony at a Sunday Service. Members and visitors welcome to serve, concentrating on one or more aspects of the committee's work.

SUNDAY SERVICE
Meets second Wednesday of the month, 7pm, year round. Arranges for speakers in minister's absence, plans special programs for holidays and topical issues, makes plans for music with the Director of Music, schedules Associates for each service. Regularly reviews elements of the Service. Communicates with the Church Administrator to produce Order of Service each Sunday. Members welcome to join; can always use new ideas and follow-through for speakers and programs that support UU principles and action issues.

FINANCE
Meets second Sunday of the month, 11:45am, September to June. Reviews budget each month. Plans and implements annual stewardship campaign, including a dinner. Includes a sub-committee for Long-Range Financial Planning. Members welcome to join.

FACILITY OPERATIONS
Meets second Friday of the month, 2pm, September to June. Monitors ongoing building and grounds, furnishings and technology maintenance and improvement. Members and regular guests welcome to join.

ENDOWMENT
Meets quarterly. Works to educate congregation on what an endowment fund is and to encourage participation. Members welcome to join.

CARING
Meets on a varying schedule, year round. Regularly contacts those experiencing personal difficulties, loss of a loved one, or health problems. Members welcome to help with any aspect.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION FOR CHILDREN
Meets on a varying schedule, September to June. A task force has been formed to explore new possibilities for the program. Members and visitors welcome to join in and co-create!
